YTHDF2 is a key protein that assists in creating healthy blood cells by regulating the bodyā€™s inflammatory response. https://twitter.com/NeuroscienceNew/status/1325907276708896768?s=20 - https://forum.effectivealtruism.org/posts/gtGe8WkeFvqucYLAF/logarithmic-scales-of-pleasure-and-pain-rating-ranking-and #mentalhealth #longevitybrief - ā€œI feel entirely in harmony with myself and the whole world, and this feeling is so strong and so delightful that for a few seconds of such bliss one would gladly give up 10 years of oneā€™s life, if not oneā€™s whole life. [ā€¦] You all, healthy people, canā€™t imagine the happiness which we epileptics feel during the second before our fitā€¦ I donā€™t know if this felicity lasts for seconds, hours or months, but believe me, I would not exchange it for all the joys that life may bring.ā€ā€“ from the character Prince Myshkin in Dostoevskyā€™s novel,Ā The Idiot, which he likely used to give a voice to his own experiences. - On May 26, 2021, at 11:16 AM, Tom Newman thomnewman@gmail.com wrote: - Will check it out - On May 25, 2021, at 10:06 PM, piotr motykiewicz piotr.moty@gmail.com wrote: - https://qualiacomputing.com/2021/05/08/healing-trauma-with-neural-annealing/ - https://youtu.be/T5p9QuqeWsg - #mentalhealth #longevitybrief https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2020/04/stanford-researchers-devise-treatment-that-relieved-depression-i.html https://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/doi/10.1176/appi.ajp.2019.19070720 - https://twitter.com/agingdoc1/status/1396569848382169089?s=20 Effects of apolipoprotein B on lifespan and risks of major diseases including type 2 diabetes: a mendelian randomisation analysis using outcomes in first-degree relatives #longevitybrief #LPa #apoB ā€œTaken together, our findings show that reductions in apoB should be the primary goal of lipid lowering, because not only does this lead to lower risk of common diseases such as heart disease and stroke, but also a reduction in apoB prolongs life by a period of months to years.ā€ - The importance of apopolipoprotein B (apoB) in major vascular diseases has become increasingly clear. ApoB is the main structural component of atherogenic lipoproteins, and each lipoprotein contains a single molecule of apoB. ApoB therefore represents a direct measure of the total atherogenic particles in the circulation that can enter the arterial wall, and is a more accurate measure of the risk posed by these particles than the mass of cholesterol they contain, estimated by LDL cholesterol or non-HDL cholesterol. - (https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanhl/article/PIIS2666-7568%2821%2900120-3/fulltext#bib1) - (https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanhl/article/PIIS2666-7568%2821%2900120-3/fulltext#) - (https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanhl/article/PIIS2666-7568%2821%2900120-3/fulltext#) - (https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanhl/article/PIIS2666-7568%2821%2900120-3/fulltext#bib4) - #cancer #longevitybrief https://twitter.com/futurejurvetson/status/1395133351867031552?s=21 Special diets might boost the power of drugs to vanquish cancers. To define the contribution of immune system ageing to organism ageing, here we selectively deletedĀ Ercc1, which encodes a crucial DNA repair protein3,4, in mouse haematopoietic cells to increase the burden of endogenous DNA damage and thereby senescence5,6,7Ā in the immune system only. We show thatĀ Vav-iCre_+/āˆ’_;Ercc1_āˆ’/flĀ mice were healthy into adulthood, then displayed premature onset of immunosenescence characterized by attrition and senescence of specific immune cell populations and impaired immune function, similar to changes that occur during ageing in wild-type mice8,9,10. Notably, non-lymphoid organs also showed increased senescence and damage, which suggests that senescent, aged immune cells can promote systemic ageing. The transplantation of splenocytes fromĀ Vav-iCre+/āˆ’_;Ercc1_āˆ’/flĀ or aged wild-type mice into young mice induced senescenceĀ inĀ trans, whereas the transplantation of young immune cells attenuated senescence. The treatment ofĀ Vav-iCre+/āˆ’_;Ercc1__āˆ’/fl__Ā mice with rapamycin reduced markers of senescence in immune cells and improved immune function11,12. These data demonstrate that an aged, senescent immune system has a causal role in driving systemic ageing and therefore represents a key therapeutic target to extend healthy ageing. - https://twitter.com/agingdoc1/status/1394996116010143746?s=21 #rapamycin #longevitybrief - https://twitter.com/foundmyfitness/status/1394747880280248320?s=21 #coffee #longevitybrief - https://twitter.com/doctor_msc/status/1392844807261888513?s=21 #longevitybrief - https://www.longevity.technology/spermidine-the-mind-enhancing-supplement/ #spermidine #longevitybrief - An aged immune system drives senescence and ageing of solid organs #longevitybrief https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-021-03547-7 - https://www.technologyreview.com/hub/ai-effect/ #longevitybrief How artificial intelligence is making health care more human - https://twitter.com/ACovarrubiasPhD/status/1392663566335963139?s=20 #longevitybrief Great paper from [@MattYousefzadeh](https://twitter.com/MattYousefzadeh) and Niedernhofer lab showing that senescent immune cells contribute to aging! Finally, we determined that peptide 14 is safe for long-term applications and also significantly extends both the lifespan and healthspan of C. elegans worms tested in two independent testings. Gene Therapy and Your Heart Does salt spike your blood pressure?

Is your cholesterol high despite your best efforts?

Does it not seem to matter what you do?

These are all worrying and frustrating. We do our best to help our health, but sometimes we canā€™t get those numbers to budge. Some of us are dealt bad hands, but time is working against all of usā€¦

Worse yet, our genes just go with the flow. They do a fantastic job of keeping us healthy for the first three decades of our lives, but start to slack off as we approach middle age.

Weā€™ve outlined how, by keeping muscle mass on and fat off, follistatin might be the single best preventative measure against heart disease on the market. Klotho and telomerase also have potentially wide-ranging benefits for your cardiovascular health.

Getting to the Bottom of Things Salt intake affects blood pressure, but more so for some than others. The exact reasons are being revealed. One of them is Klotho.

Itā€™s been known for years that declining levels of Klotho accelerate artery stiffening. A new study found that it also affects salt sensitivity and is now a promising candidate for preventing hypertension in the elderly.

Shorter telomeres are implicated in all-cause mortality. In other words, shorter telomeres increase your chances of dying from virtually all ā€œnaturalā€ causes. Short telomeres, by encouraging inflammation and reducing stem cell proliferation (among other things), contribute to atherosclerosis.

Plaque buildup can also be traced to dysfunctional metabolism. A healthy metabolism depends on a healthy amount of lean body mass and adipose (fat) tissue. This is where follistatin comes into the picture. Skeletal muscle is key to staying mobile, staying fit, and keeping Metabolic Syndrome - insulin insensitivity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc. - at bay.

All three of these gene therapies show incredible promise in delaying, preventing, and perhaps even reversing cardiovascular disease.

Follistatin Gene Therapy Follistatin gene therapy has been used with success in patients with Duchenne and Beckerā€™s muscular dystrophy safely and effectively.

In healthy subjects given epicatechin (a compound that elevates follistatin levels) markedly increased their grip strength. Although this seems crude, grip strength is a good biomarker of general health and predictor of all-cause mortality. They saw this happen within one week.

It seems not just likely, but inevitable, that gene therapies like telomerase, follistatin, and Klotho will be used as means to prevent or alleviate Type 2 diabetes. Want to learn more?

The company screened over 300 GRAS compounds and identified compounds that could modulate a number of pathways that are linked to aging. Dr.Ā Kennedy subsequently joined Ponce de Leon Health as its Chief Scientific Officer, and the company has been busy testing and preparing to translate these findings to people. Its strategy has been to test its products on mammalian models that closely emulate human aging in order to give the best chance of translating beneficial results to us.

For consumer testing the company gave participants Rejuvant and measured their epigenetic ages using DNA methylation testing. This supplement contains a proprietary form of calcium alpha-ketoglutarate, which the FDA considers to be GRAS. The company believes that Rejuvant works by slowing down the rate of age-related DNA methylation and reducing the inflammation caused by senescent cells, two proposed reasons why we age. - https://www.reddit.com/r/longevity/comments/hm5jkr/liz_parrish_master_of_your_immune_system_the/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf #longevitybrief - https://www.reddit.com/r/longevity/comments/hhr4ga/a_cure_for_heart_disease_a_single_shot_succeeds/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf #longevitybrief - https://www.diamandis.com/blog/regenerative-medicine?utm_campaign=Tech%20Blog&utm_medium=email&_hsmi=90374066&_hsenc=p2ANqtz-_cfyDqCoVrCzmEhIV2s-XvHZUAD_lAmTRvMroj1zXEFfgiXeA8xFcxYkMd-9sONYXiuGNCG04Ls2SYjJt9lOLZIj5kUg&utm_content=90374066&utm_source=hs_email
